Anthropic

Also known as: Anthropic

The AI safety company behind the Claude family of models and the Model Context Protocol; a leading frontier lab with a strong safety focus.

Choose your level

Anthropic is the company behind Claude, a leading AI assistant. It is known for putting AI safety at the centre of what it does, aiming to build powerful AI that is also trustworthy and steerable. It is one of the small group of top labs building the most advanced models, and it created the Model Context Protocol, a now widely-used standard for connecting AI to tools.

Anthropic is a US-based AI safety and research company, founded in 2021, known for the Claude family of large language models. Safety and reliability are central to its stated mission, and it developed techniques such as Constitutional AI (aligning models to a set of written principles).

Why it matters

  • Frontier lab: Claude is among the leading frontier models.
  • Standards: Anthropic introduced the Model Context Protocol (2024), now an industry standard for tool/data connections.
  • Safety focus: it publishes research on alignment, interpretability and responsible scaling.

Its models are accessed via products and an API, and it has major cloud partnerships.

Anthropic (founded 2021) is a frontier AI lab with an explicit safety mission, developer of the Claude LLM family and of methods such as Constitutional AI (principle-based alignment using AI feedback). It authored and open-sourced the Model Context Protocol (2024), now a broadly adopted interoperability standard for tool and data connections, and publishes work on interpretability, red-teaming and responsible-scaling policies.

It is one of the few labs training frontier-scale models (alongside OpenAI, Google DeepMind and others), with major compute/cloud partnerships and predominantly closed-weight models served via API and products. As with all fast-moving labs, specific model versions, benchmarks and corporate details change rapidly; this entry states only durable facts and defers time-sensitive specifics to primary sources.
